The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC )

Dr. Ahmed Audi has ordered a massive deployment of officers and men of the corps in and around schools and forests in Katsina State.

The move was designed to forestall likely further attacks by bandits on schools,  farms and other settlements in the State.

Reports from Katsina indicated that on Thursday bandits stormed a village near the permanent site of the Federal University, Dutsinma,  Katsina State, to abduct a large number of farmers and women.

The swift response of the NSCDC operatives stationed in the university premises as part of the Safe School Initiative measures thwarted the planned attempt of the bandits to kidnap farmers from neighbouring communities.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Corps,  Babawale Afolabi,  armed bandits arrived on 10 motorcycles and initially abducted six people but were resisted by operatives  of the NSCDC.

He said in a statement that the resistance of the men of the NSCDC led to the rescue of three women while the bandits took away two men and one boy from Yarrumfa village.

“In the meantime, the operatives of the NSCDC with the support of the local vigilante groups are currently combing the forest to rescue the abducted victims and rid the forest of the bandits.

“The Commandant  General has also ordered the Katsina State Command to collaborate with sister agencies and synergize with the university authorities, Nigeria Army and the police to work together to thwart any further planned attacks,”  Afolabi said.
